1624Y00F05roman16Y00C3Y00S4NThe Campaign For More Star Trek
2426Y00F07bookman24Y00C4Y00S2NThe Flea/Panda
0819Y00F05topaz08Y00C1N
0806Y00S0NOkay- some of my Panda compatriots have slagged of Star Trek many times-
0801Nboth in Zoo and, more often, to me.
0801N
0801NTheir criticisms, as many (hopefully!) of you will realise, are TOTALLY
0801NUNJUSTIFIED! There are several reasons why Star Trek is needed in society-
0801N
0830Y00F11microknight08Y00C2Y03C1N1 It has great stories (from about series three of TNG onwards, anyway...)
0801N
0811Y00C6Y03C1N2 We need something spacey that's better than Babylon 5 (I like Babylon 5,
0801N but not enough for it to replace Star Trek!)
0801N
0811Y00C5Y03C1N3 It takes up TV time that would otherwise be used to show sports of various
0801N types, which I HATE!
0801N
0811Y00C4Y03C1N4 We need someone (Captain Sisko) who can act well enough to make the
0801N Thunderbirds look human...(Okay, one of the few points I DISLIKE about
0801N Star Trek- the Siskos)
0801N
0811Y00C3Y03C1N5 We need a regularly scheduled program with Terry Farrell in it!!!!
0801N
0801N
0814Y00F05topaz08NOnly Star Trek couold come up with Q or the Borg! (Okay, Babylon 5 has the
0801NShadows, which could roughly equate to the Borg, but no-one can touch Q!)
0801N
0801NQ is just ace- how many other beings would introduce you to your worst
0801Nnightmare (the Borg)- just to prove the point that you can't cope with all
0801Nthat life throws at you without a little help from your friendly
0801Nneighbourhood Trans-dimentional Omnipotent Being?
0801N
0801NAnother reason that Star Trek is needed is because other Sci-Fi series of
0801Nlate (I.E. Babylon 5, The X-Files, Millenium (now that one IS crap!)) take
0801Nthemselves too seriously (or at least try to...)- Star Trek writers at least
0801Nhave the decency to take the piss occasionally- Star Trek IV was a total
0801Ncomedy (although a good one!),and Star Trek V- they found God! (Star Trek V
0801Nis another of the few things I dislike about it). Although the other Sci-fi
0801Nprogrammes mentioned do have the occasional "humerous" moment- they are all
0801Nfar too serious- there are only three people in Babylon 5 that can smile
0801Nwithout it looking forced! (Sheridan, Marcus and G'Kar).
0801N
0801NOkay- I have mentioned a couple of things I don't like about Star Trek- just
0801Nto set the record straight, here's a full list:
0820Y00F11microknight08N
0811Y00C2Y03C1N1 Star Trek V
0801N
0811Y00C6Y02C1N2 The Siskos
0801N
0811Y00C5Y03C1N3 The "Dull" Crushers
0801N
0811Y00C4Y03C1N4 "Smug" Will Riker
0801N
0811Y00C3Y02C1N5 Chakotay (he talks to an imaginary animal whenever he thinks the ship is
0801N in danger!) and Harry Kim
0801N
0819Y00F05topaz08Y00C1NApart from this small list, everything else in Star Trek is great!
